Go to dialup-networking under My Computer. If you have been there at least
once before, it will not prompt you for a new connection. Otherwise, simply
fill in the name of the location you will be dialing.
[ Dial-Up Properties ] Select the name of the phonebook entry that will be edited. Click on More, then Click on 'Edit Entry and Modem Properties'. [ Basic Tab ] You should then enter the name of your new setup in the Entry name field, and comments if you would like to have one. Then enter the phone number you use to dial into MV with. Alternate phone numbers can also be entered from this screen. Finally, modem configuration is handled here. [ Server Tab ] Under the server tab, make sure TCP/IP is checked, and that the alternative protocols IPX/SPX and NetBEUI are not checked. Also make sure to uncheck 'Enable PPP LCP extentions'. Then press the TCP/IP Settings button to enter the TCP/IP Settings dialog box.
[ TCP/IP Settings ]
Select 'Server Assigned IP Address' and also select 'Specify Name Server
Addresses'. Then input the DNS addresses so your documents can be found on
the internet. [ Script Tab ] Leave this screen with the toggle selected as 'None'. [ Security Tab ] You should have 'Accept any authentication including clear text' checked. Now press the OK button, you are done editing this phonebook entry. [ Dial ] Pressing the Dial button will bring up the 'Connect To' dialog box for the selected phonebook entry. Put in your IP login name in the 'User Name' input field. (Make sure to include the capital 'P') Place your 'Password' that you have given us in the password field. Leave the 'Domain' field blank. This is important. Check 'Save Password' if you want to have NT remember your password for you. If local security is a concern though, you may want to leave this option unchecked and you will be prompted for a password each time you initiate a connection. |
