As part of the transition, users must start accessing FCG Mail Servers
in a slightly different way than they were previously. The following
changes are required:
- The name of the outgoing server must be set to SMTP.fcgnetworks.net.
It has come to our attention that many users had configured their email
applications to use mail.fcgnetworks.net this was not noticed until
recently.
- Users must begin using the submission port to send email. This
port was designed to know the difference between email generated by
a customer computer and email being transferred from one computer to
another for the purpose of delivering the email. Users have been using
port 25 until now. Unfortunately, many ISPs are now beginning to block
access to port 25 on remote computers. This is an effort to reduce SPAM
sent by computer viruses. The solution is to provide a port for customers
to use when they are at home as well as when they travel. Users
must therefore change the port used for outgoing mail from the default
port 25 to port 587.
- SMTP Auth must be turned on. SMTP Auth identifies you to
the FCG computers. SMTP Auth uses a username and password. This
username/password is the same as the username and password you use
to receive your email. In most email applications, there is a checkbox
that will say something along the lines of: My outgoing mail server
requires me to log in. Simply check this box, the default will
be to use the same username and password as used for retrieving the email.
- Lastly, you will need to change the phone number you use to connect.
Select a number from the list of available numbers (Click here for list of numbers). FCG Users
should add @fcgnetworks.net onto their login names for login authentication.

your dialup number, click here.
The changes outlined above should only need to be made once per computer
and should not take more than a few minutes. We have provided instructions
and screenshots on the most common email applications.
